Inspired by similar schemes in other areas around the UK, Built in Shropshire is a showcase of Shropshire's plentiful local businesses and industries, with an ambition to give them a much-needed boost and put them in the spotlight to not just our county but the rest of the country and even the entire world. At a time of a cost of living crisis and more and more local businesses struggling to compete against giant corporations, Built in Shropshire’s aim is to preserve, sustain and grow local industry.
As the founder of Built in Shropshire, I was born in Shrewsbury, grown up in Shrewsbury my entire childhood, and have lived in Shrewsbury (and later Telford) for my entire life. Therefore, I am Shropshire through and through. I have always been passionate about my home county, and want to do everything I can to help it thrive and be the best county it can be. Think of this as my gift to my home county.
Built in Shropshire was not founded with the intention of directly making any revenue; rather help to introduce revenue opportunities to local businesses. Think of it more as a non-profit organisation - the whole aim of the game here is to help promote and showcase what Shropshire has on offer. For transparency, it actually costs us very little to operate Built in Shropshire - it’s little more than a website on our server, a few social media accounts, and our time - therefore it is completely free of charge to local businesses.
Having just founded Built in Shropshire, the first step is, of course, to get local businesses onboard with this. Then, we will attempt to pitch ourselves to Shropshire’s many town councils, enterprise partnerships and local tourism groups, to try and get them onboard too. Once that is accomplished, we will take measures to grow our presence on social media as much as possible, which will be a key factor to achieve our main purpose.
